About Matt

Why you can trust a stranger from the internet with your customers.

Fair question. Here are 7 honest answers. Grab a coffee.

  1. 1.

    I started as a welder.

First real job was an apprentice welder building super yachts. Long days, hot steel, and a healthy respect for people who work with their hands for a living.

So when I say I know how a tradie operates, I mean I have been the one on the tools with a phone ringing in my pocket that I could not answer.

Safety was not our strong point. We lived.
  2. 2.

    Then I built rockets.

I spent years as an engineer at the Australian startup building this country's first orbital launch vehicle. I was responsible for the design, build and testing of the vehicle's 400 kilowatt electric hydrogen peroxide pump.

Our first sub-orbital rocket blew up in the desert. That is normal in rockets, and it teaches you to test everything before you trust it. I still work that way.

I'm in there somewhere. That's the one we blew up.
  3. 3.

I quit a six figure job because of ChatGPT.

Late 2022, ChatGPT dropped and I could see exactly what was coming. I sold my shares in the rocket company, quit, and started building things on the internet full time.

Most people said that was mad. Three years on, every business in Australia is about to find out it wasn't.

  4. 4.

This website was my first dollar online.

You are reading this on rareconnections.io because it was my first win. I grew it from nothing to about 500 visitors a day in a few months, purely by understanding how Google ranks pages.

The old articles are still here if you go looking. I keep them because the domain has earned its trust, and I would rather build on that than start again.

  5. 5.

I've grown other people's businesses too.

As Head of Growth for a US content company I signed up over 400 contributors and took their blog from zero to nearly 60,000 visits a month in nine months.

The chart below is their Google Search Console. The arrow is roughly where I stopped working on it.

Google Search Console chart showing clicks growing from near zero to over 2,000 a day
Zero to 60k a month. Then I left.
  6. 6.

I build AI agents every single day.

Not as a hobby. It is my actual job. I design and run complex multi-step AI agents that do real work for real businesses, and I have done it long enough to know exactly where these things fall over and how to stop them.

A chatbot that books a plumber or recommends a tent is, honestly, a small job for me. That is why I can do it fast and cheap. It's also why yours will actually work.

  7. 7.

I'm in Queensland. You can call me.

Not an overseas agency, not a reseller, not a call centre. Same time zone, same slang, same understanding that "yeah nah" means no.

I answer my own email, usually the same day. If you want to hear a voice before you trust me with your customers, say so and I will ring you.

That's about it.

Send me a link to your website and I'll build you a bot to look at, no charge. Happy to jump on a call at any time.
